Disassembling a Lionel Prewar 253 Motor

I am new to model train repair. I am trying to disassemble a Lionel prewar 253 motor for cleaning. However, it has rivets holding together the faceplates of the motor, and I don't know how to remove the rivets without damaging the motor. Would you have any suggestions?

Do not try and disassemble the motor without the right tools. Leave the motor assembled as-is and get a large bowl and a can of Naphtha (from the hardware store). Put the entire motor in the bowl and cover it with naphtha. Get an old toothbrush and some Q-tips and scrub the entire motor with the naphtha. It will come clean.

Dry it off with paper towels, and the rest will evaporate. Follow with a good oiling and greasing and you will be back in business.
