Lionel Signal 154 & American Flyer Track
Posted by skippygp123 on Friday, October 13, 2017 5:46 PM

Is it possible to connect a Lionel Signal #154 to the 2 rail American Flyer track so that the signal will still work?

I found the Lionel signal at the bottom of a box of American Flyer things I bought at an auction.  I know that Lionel uses the 3 rail track and have found the wiring diagrams for hooking the signal up to that.  But, I run American Flyer and have just the 2 rail track.

Is it still possible to use the Lionel signal on my layout and have it work?

Thanks fo any help you can give me.

I do not suffer from insanity...I enjoy every minute of it!!!      Over 60 and still playing with toys!

It looks like a pair of American Flyer 696 Flasher trips should operate the signal.

Alternately, the Dallee electronic grade crossing flasher may be installed.

It may be possible to use the 154C contactor that was meant for the 154 signal.  You would have to make a separate connection to the opposite rail to replace the 154C's connection to the center rail.

That said, the 154C makes a very unrealistic flashing pattern.  And it is possible that it interrupts enough length of the rail you install it on that the Flyer train loses contact with the rail and stops.
