Here's my Lionel 8690 trolley. I have the correct rubber bumbers for it. But it looks like the trolley chassis is from a 60 trolley as it has the metal bumpers. There is no way the bumpers will fit that. All the pics I've looked of the 8690 shows the correct blue rubber bumpers. The correct part number of the slide to fit the rubber bumpers is 8490-79.
Any ideas? Some one had a busted up 60 trolley and put a 8690 body on it?

Probably an 8690 body on a postwar chassis. You would need a modern era reversing slide / bumper bracket to use those bumpers. The part was modified to use then.
I did see some pics online that showed the 8690 with the 60 style bumpers. Possible that early production had them? Mine runs very nice and quiet. Unlike the 60 trolleys. Very little wear also.
Doubtful. Any pictures you saw were probably of units that were modified outside the factory.
Thanks for the reply. I could not find the update slide anywhere, so it will stay like it is.
