Does any one know where to purchase elevated track supports, like Chicago's elevated train system?  Or perhaps any literature on how to build them.

As a Chicagoan, half of the "fun" of modeling the L tracks would be what goes on under them.  The streets are typically four lanes wide - the tracks span two lanes  with the other two lanes outside of the trestle supports.  The two outer lanes are used for street parking and right-hand turn lanes, requiring you to frequently slalom through the trestle supports.  Throw in pedestrians and some double parking for deliveries and it's slightly chaotic - but of the well-rehersed variety.  Would be cool to model!
