I was concentrating recently on installing a Junior Bridge Company suspension bridge on the layout. I made sure to cut out an area to a width where the pillars at each end would be standing attractively on each "shore" of the "water", with the main body of the bridge over the gap. Looked good. BUT, in planning for that bridge, I failed to consider the length of the plate girder bridge which would cross the gap on the inside loop of track in front of the suspension bridge. I wanted to use the girder bridge so the view of the suspension bridge would be unobstructed. I soon discovered that the girder bridge was two inches too short to stretch across the banks. Uh, Oh. I quickly rounded up four long Erector Set base plates and checking the width and length needed, screwed them together to the desired size. I placed these over the gap and centered the girder bridge on this assembly. This "quick fix" will do until I can cut some wooden supports for each end and paint them to resemble concrete. I wish I had the foresight to have done this earlier.
