I've been in Duluth this past week. The Lake Superior Transportation Museum has had some interesting activity going on.
They have been restoring The Duluth and Northeastern #28 for quite a while. On Monday they took her out for a walk around the wye at Rice's Point to stretch her legs after they got her side rods back on.
Some time this week they will fire her up for the first time.
On Thursday they held a dedication to welcome their newest diesel acquisition to the collection;
Soo Line #320

I am actually in the background in the photo in that article.
And to keep this thread on track:
Here is a toy train photo:

Just completed customizing this Plasticville classic for my Flyer layout. The people who drive to the A&W stand now have a place to fuel their cars.
I have figured out what is wrong with my brain! On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!
It's almost that time of year !

I watched Tora! Tora! Tora! today so I thought I'd post a pic of my little airfield.
More scenes seen around town.
The Zen of American Flyer?
Looks a bit like Mayberry.
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
Great shots Becky!
"Tora! Tora! Tora!" Great film, we won't see it's like again. Them's real airplanes in that movie kids, no CGI back in those days.
While I enjoy the film every time I see it, I'm totally fascinated by the Japanese half. It's not often in war films you see the event from the other side, not like that.
Yeah I had no idea Mitsubishi copied an American trainer when they "came up with" the Zero. One of the tidbits I learned from this dvd set I picked up at Cracker Barrel last Thursday. Another fascinating bit is the fact that the original director of the Japanese sequences hired businessmen rather than actors for the roles. I guess he figured "real" actors would ham it up too much. Based on what we saw years later with "Pearl Harbor", the Ben Aflek movie, I'm inclined to agree with him. Great effects movie, but Tora is better!
we have to remember Holloywood is in the entertainment business, not histry. ocasionally they do make a great movie...Twelve O'clock High, Band of Brothers. But even then some facts may get fudged when the budjet rears it's ugly head. Tora Tora Tora is a great movie. I like Pearl Harbor as well, but I put it in it's place.

It's a TOY, A child's PLAYTHING!!! (Woody from Toy Story)
Well, Lady Firestorm and I thought "Pearl Harbor" was a wasted opportunity.
It's not often we go to a historic flick and BOTH of us catch all the errors, both unintentional and ridiculous. When we walked out of the theater I turned to her and said "Well, do you want to start or should I?"
Wasted opportunity. On the other hand if the kids who saw the film learned something about Pearl Harbor then I guess it wasn't all wasted effort.
