please explain it for me. What is a "foamer" sounds like a mad dog but I know better. This term has been used in reference to train people and I am curious to know what it means. dave

Dave, a "foamer" is a "rabid" railfan-- one who chases trains as an obsession[:D]. The railroad people don't like them much--

Yep!

Only down side to this is that many professional railroaders have taken to calling all railfans "foamers". Whenever I'm railfanning and talk to a railroader, I'm always polite, down to earth and friendly, whether they're locomotive crew personnel or managers.
