Lionel 3470
Posted by trains2353 on Monday, January 23, 2017 1:00 PM

Picked up a Lionel 3470 on ebay for $9.00. Missing the basket, the motor was squeling, and a wire was off. Soldered said wire back on, lubed the motor so it is quiet, now cleaning it up. In the first pic, the motor bracket looks to be made from a Folgers Coffee lid. The second pic shows the motor made in Japan. Didn't know lionel outsourced things like that. Any ideas what I have here?

Here's some more pics of the flatcar. Mold # is 6511-2. The cutouts look well done. Missing the brake wheel. The body snaps on as it should. I don't know if the "Folgers" bracket belongs to the 3470. I cant find an exploded pic to see if it is. The motor fits like it should.

No, you will find they are all built with this motor and scrap lithographed sheet metal.

I guess times were getting tough and they saved money wherever they could. As was said, early recycling.
