Replacing smoke unit in 2026
Posted by Billwiz on Sunday, January 15, 2017 7:41 PM

I purchased the kit to replace the smoke unit to liquid today.  I saw a post on another forum about adding a shut off switch.  Is this something I should add to my 2026?  Suggestions on where to place it?  Thanks.

Don't do it. Pellet smoke units work just fine with liquid smoke fluids and don't have to be turned off when they run out. They are much more robust and last much longer, and you can continue to use pellets or fluid as you wish.

I agree with rob. If your original burnt out get the repair kit to keep it as Pill. Not sure condition of you engine but to me I would rather keep original and value up. If someone tells me it has been converted to liquid I don't want it.

This is one area where the value means nothing to me - it's all in the performance. The 2026 is ubiquitous and common, so I really appreciate one that runs & smokes well. I can revert any 2026 back to pellet type in 20 minutes.

Did the same project over a year ago.  Couple of tips: Remember which way the retainer pin's gnarled end came out, and have a dental pick nearby to scale away years of hardened residue.

I like the nostalgia of dropping the pills down the stack.

Disassemled one of my 2026's, cleaned out 50 years of melted smoke pellets, and decided to put it back together and try it out before rebuilding.  It is working great!  Now to the older unit...
