Christmas Train Melees
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, December 9, 2004 11:23 AM
It's Christmas time, and many of you have many experiences with trains through out the holidays. I thought it would be fun to write about some misfortunes we've had with trains around the Christmas tree, since I started this, I'll go first. I have 2 stories, may be from the same year. I was seated by the tree runing my trains at my grandparents house when their dog came in. For what ever reason he rubbed up against the tree and it came tumbling down on me and my trains. I ws petrified, can't remember if i would up crying, but I was stunned. Just a side note, the next Christmas I also had the tree at our house fall on me. There was another time that i decided that I was going to play with my trains so i had to plug in the transformer. I was about 8, i plugged the transformer in, and all i see an explosion of blue and then smoke. I don't think I've ever tried to plug anything into that outlet again.

that reminds me of how my cat used to be like Godzilla when he'd be on my layout, only, he wouldn;t destoy, just sleep and knock some cars off the track.

Two years ago I had a Kw transformer wig out. The fixed voltage posts sent way to much voltage out and fried a rotary beacon which was just purchased to be the new accessory under the tree.
Up until that moment everything worked fine . Don't know that much about transformers but something inside the KW went haywire.

A couple of years ago, our 4'x8', 3-track 027 layout was tight next to the couch. The couch has a recliner chari built in to each end. My son pulled the recliner lever--releasing the footrest with a spring action--just as my MPC Berkshire was coming around the bend, launching it across the room. Now, those of you who've held a classic Berk know how much they weigh. This one flew through the air to land on the upper level of the layout almost 8' away. No damage--of course! (try that with one of those scale engines!)--but my heart rate went up pretty quick.

Hey Ya'll

I have a story for every year I have put a train under the main tree in the house. But heree are my most memorable ones.

This was when I was 5. I was at my Aunts running her scout set, when her 2 dogs chased her cat up the christmas tree. I was on my back, but I rolled to the side, thinking I was out of the range of fire, but, The tree cat and all toppled over on top of me.

This one isint bad, but it was cute and hiiliarious. I was borrowing my friends MTH chessie set, when my new kitten (very small) climdbed onto one of the F3 units. I didn't see it, and turned on the transformer and walked away, when I returned later, the was the kitten, streched out acroos the lead unti and purring right along with the desils. I coudn't resist taking a picture.

A year ago, I took two sections of 3ft Lionel track and bent them to make a steep grade down for the top of the bed, to a barrier of blocks and ornaments with the christmas viliage right behind it. I turmed the train one, and it ran right down the ttrack smashed throught the barier and busted the 3 buld ornaments, and then (this was an accident) ran into the wall of the ceramic train station and caused the wall and a small portion of the roof, to crash down on the train.

If you've ever seen Thomas the Tank Engines' "Thomas Comes To Breakfast" were thomas thought he could move without his driver and crashed through the wall of the Station Master's house, that is what it looked like. I had the station fixed and is as good as new, so only memeories of "The Lionel 2-4-0 Comes To Breakfast" remain.
