One of our MTH 072 switch would not transfer the electricity from one end to the other. The engines stop on the swtich. The switch does work remotely. We can't figure it out. Any ideas.
Is it just one engine or multiple engines that has the issue?

JTrains Is it just one engine or multiple engines that has the issue? All the one motor engines. The two motors make it past the swtich.
Looks like you'll need to use a voltmeter to test each piece of rail in the switch to see which one is causing a problem. If you don't have a voltmeter, you could borrow a two-wire accessory from your layout and connect it between combinations of an inside and outside rail - when it doesn't work, you know you've found a problem.
The two motor engines have pick-ups on both trucks? ( probably so) this would be the reason they make it thru as one set of pick-ups are always off the bad area.

Unfortunately, no - only by testing will you determine what is wrong.
