great pics guys. That Flyer looks great Jim. There is a set of those Flyer New Haven cars in a local antique mall. They have Lionel Postwar trucks, and I looked at them last time I was there. Thought they would look good behind one of my Marx or small Lionel steamers, but he wants $35-$40 each, and I see them on the bay cheaper than that.

Our son was married this weekend in Duluth.  The entire wedding party and family members rode from Duluth to Two Harbors and back on the North Shore Scenic Railroad.  Here are a few pics of the day.

The Two Harbors Depot served as the Como Park Depot in the Movie Iron Will.  The car we rode in, the W24,  was also used in the move'

Your note about the replacement Lionel trucks got me wondering if these might be Flyer pre-war 3/16 O-gauge cars.  Gilbert produced two interations of the New Haven cars.  Pre World War II cars have sheet metal bodies and carry body numbers in the 490's.  They came with trucks designed to run on O-scale track with the AF link couplers.  Perhaps the original owner was a Lionel operator, and he switched the trucks to make the cars compatible with his Lionel trains.

 

After the war Gilbert converted all production to S scale running on two-rail track.  The car's bodies remained the same size, but they got new trucks compatible with the new track.  The post war cars were manufactured with plastic bodies and were numbered in the 600's and 700's.   

 

The prices you quoted are competitive with what the collector's catalogs quote for the pre-war cars in good condition.  They are somewhat more valuable than the 50's cars.  Most of what you see on eBay is probably post war, as it's more common.   Make sure you are not mixing apples and oranges as you shop.
