I'm looking to expand my layout and in the interest of keeping the costs down, I've been gathering materials already in my basement to use as a starting point. Question though. I have a good number of flat styrofoam panels available to use for the layout top. While the existing portion of my layout was built using the pink foam, I was curious if the styrofoam may represent a problem with my track (Lionel FasTrack) due to it's tendency to gather static electricity. But then, I noted that Woodland Scenics risers, etc. are made from styrofoam. So, I figured there may be some folks out here in the forum that may be able to share their two cents. Styrofoam: Good idea or bad? Thanks.
We've used Woodland Scenics risers and other shapes from that product line on CTT staff-built project railroads. It is a nicely thought-out system. Bits of foam tend to cling to tools and clothing when you work with it, but once the scenery is done static electricity isn't an issue for running trains.
