So I just decided to upgrade my layout to wide radius (072) curves, and this also meant buying a few used 721 switches (basically similar to the 042 manual switches with the lever, but wider radius, no lead to the center rail, and different screw threads). One of the 721 switches came without a lever, which I understand is interchangeable with the ones on the 042 switches. I also ordered some replacement pins from Olsen's Toy Trains, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience or suggestions on how to the pin into the handle/switch cover. From looking at my complete switches, this looks like it may prove difficult.
According to the diagram of the 042 switch, the pin looks like a press fit into the cover.
The pin should slip fit through 1 hole in the cover, through the lever, then be a press fit into the other hole in the cover. You may need to use a small hammer and punch to seat the pin fully in the second cover hole.

The control lever for the postwar 042 manual switch track will not work with the prewar 721 manual swith track. The part number for the prewar 721 switch track is 721-19.

I purchased a different lever (see picture), but that's what was on my other 721 switch, so it should work.
