Replacement for K Line seuthe smoke unit
Posted by Michael6268 on Friday, March 11, 2016 10:26 PM

Have a couple K Line 4-6-2 K3003 steamers with the original (burnt out) crappy seuthe smoke units.

Anyone know of a little better unit that would fit in these?

I am not sure if an MTH smoke unit will fit but they work a whole lot better then a seuthe smoke unit. The seuthe units are very poor in design, Williams uses them as well.

Interested in southest Pennsylvania railroads; Reading & Northern, Reading Company, Reading Lines, Philadelphia & Reading.

Looks like no room for anything but seuthe type unit.

So many available. How can you tell which one?

I've got a K-Line steamer with a burned out smoke unit myself.  The standard Seuthe smoke unit for O gauge engines won't fit, I made a guess and tried one.  The one that's in there looks like something that would go in an HO engine, it's pretty small considering the size of the unit.  I've been on the lookout for HO Seuthe units, I believe they are made, but haven't gotten one yet. I don't run the engine all that much so replacing the smoke unit's not a high priority for me.

I think the Seuthe unit's one of those smoke units you'd better keep "wet" all the time if you can't turn it off.

Try a #6 or 7 unit. Lionel used them in thier smoking diner. they are on Ebay ranging from 18 to 32 bucks. they are also have different voltage ranges. look for the 1 that is 5 to 15/18 volt. the other is 11 to 18/20 volt. just type in the Seuthe name in the search box.

Hope this helps

I was thinking the #6-#7 also.

Well the #6 was way too big.

Ordered the #99.  Perfect fit. Exact size as old one.

Works pretty good too!

Puts out decent smoke for such a small unit!

A #99, thanks for passing that on, I'll remember that when I get to resurrecting the smoke unit in my own K-Line steamer.
