Resource for locating part numbers?

Is there a resource other than Lionel's "very incomplete website" for finding Lionel part numbers?  I even emailed Lionel and asked for part numbers. Their response was. "Those are older items and we don't have part numbers for those".  How can a lionel not have part numbers for something they produced????

Your question is vague because you didn't mention what era you are dealing with.  If you are looking for Postwar numbers (1945-1969) era, and you don't own a service manual, the BEST place to find the numbers is on Olsen Toy Train Parts.  Olsen's has a "Library" section, that lists both Prewar & Postwar locos, rolling stock, accessories, etc. for anyone to use.  The Library section is copies from Lionel Service Manuals.  Just log on to the site, search for the tab marked Library, and then search for what you need.

 

Lionel (The present Company), does not have the older Prewar or Postwar records anymore.  You will only find records for the Modern era, on up.  The Pre/Postwar is only found in Service Manuals.  You can sometimes find an Abridged version of a service manual listed as K-line (Aurotech) Repair manual for sale from Amazon, eBay, and can be found fairly cheap.

The parts I was looking for were mainly from the late 90s.

One part I was looking for was the cradle and screw for the operating ore dump car.(the pivoting frame under the dump bin on the car) Car item number 16766. The other was replacement cows for the Chicago and Northwestern cattle car and stockyard number 19828.

goto lionel web page then goto suport then hit manuals you will see Product supplements open supplement 17 look for your engine number that will tell you what supplement and drawing # if no S in front number thats supplement 1-9.

Thanks! I knew there had to be some kind of resource for parts numbers. Not surprised Lionel didn't mention it though.
