Hi,
I recently purchased a used switch. When I put it in place in my layout I found I had a problem. Every time a car with magnetic uncouplers (I have Lionel Corp. by MTH Tinplate) goes over the switch the uncouplers fire and my cars uncouple. I have tried a different switch using the same controller and it works fine. Any ideas.
Thanks
I assume you are talking about shoe activated electro-couplers? Those will open if the shoe contacts the center rail or a spark from a bad rail connection.
If different cars all do this and only one switch it's happening on there is a bad switch internal connection or the center rail is too high. Take off the bottom plate of the switch and make sure all the straps are properly soldered in place to the rails. Then check the center rail and make sure it's not loose and accidently contacting the shoe when the car passes over.
A strategicly palced piece of electrical tabe can help troubleshoot this.
read my long thread "022/711 switch operating pblms" Look for it with Google. I think you will find the answer in the thread.
Thanks to you both of you for taking the time to help me out. Luckily I found my receipt today and the vendor agreed to refund my money. I would like tinker with it to see how it works but I might break it so I think I will get my money back instead. Thanks again
