Lionel 58-19 lamp post re-wiring question
Posted by Sturgeon-Phish on Friday, January 1, 2016 9:23 AM

I have a Lionel 58-19 lamp post that needs to be re-wired. I do not think I can remove the original base from the reflector without breaking the cast post. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Jim

can you get the lamp socket to come out as my thought how about replacing that and all the wiring with a led you still would have the job of running the wire down it but one suggestion before you pull the wire up through it tie a piece of thread to it so you could ti that to the wires of the led to pull them back down thru

Why do you want to remove the lamp socket?

You should be able to coax out the fiber washer / lamp contact that sits at the bottom of the socket. Then usually you can attach a new pigtail lead, and thread it though the hollow post.

The fiber washer is already gone. So if I would secure a bit of the exposed wire conductor on an insulator secured in the lamp base then thread the wire down to the base terminal?

Sounds like that should work. I'll give it a try.

Thanks all

If the lamp post were on my bench, I'd solder a length of thin solid conductor wire to a Lionel lamp contact  (#61-22) and thread it through the lamp post. I would suggest against using any sort of homemade contact.

The lamp post is a #58. The #58-19 is a part number.
