My locomotives are stalling on Atlas 3-rail #5 switches. This is due to the gap in the middle rail being too long to be spanned by the pick up rollers. Running the trains fast enough to coast over them causes derailments on the curves just beyond.
Has anyone else experienced the problem and is there an easy fix for the problem?

The most common fix since there isn't much you can do to the turnout is to add another p/u roller, in the tender if a steamer or a separate freight car if a diesel. However you will need to a a tether to connect this new p/u roller to the engine.
As an afterthought:
We use a lot of different Atlas turnouts on the club layout and we have had a problem in the past with the jumper wires that were used in the turnouts burning out. When we change out turnouts now, we upgrade their jumpers with a heavier gauge. You might want to check the continuity of the Atlas jumpers.
