Does anyone know if you can buy an upgrade kit to convert a convention engine to digital command, i.e. TMMC? I have a Williams engine and am looking to upgrade it.
Yes,
Lionel partners with, "Electric Railroad" offering kits that can be used with AC or DC engines like your Williams. The kits are not cheap though. It's almost a better plan to sell the Williams engine and purchase a used 10-20 year old Lionel TMCC equipped engine.
Type 'Electric RR Lionel' into google or visit the Lionel web site and look in the track and power catalog.
I agree with Al to a point if it's a engine you like and want to keep or like me I picked up a Scale williams GG1 I'm going to add ERR system in the future as to buy even a used one thats lionel would out weight the cost also if your buying someones engine thats 10 to 20 years old your not sure if your buying there head ache. It's a personal preferance most you get used are most likely fine but you never know. I also like to do the install also it is straight forward and easy.
