Train Friends Really Add to the Enjoyment of Our Hobby
Posted by PTC on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 1:15 PM

This past Sunday, we had a visit from train friends that previously we had known only from our contact with them over the years on a Forum. This couple are vacationing in our home State and made it a point to share their vacation with us. When they arrived, they had been on the road for some time, so since it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, we decided to give them some relax time and first take them out for a boat ride on our lake. Good move as they really enjoyed it. This also gave us time to catch up on things and to get to know them better. Their dog Minnie also came along for the ride.

Next, it was on to our layouts. First up was our new Polar Express layout that we had started this past January and finished in May. Our guests are huge PE fans and they got a kick out of all of our elves (over 750 of them), not to mention both versions of the Lionel scale PE sets, Gold and Black. Next we were all off to the barn where our passenger train layout is located. There is something magical about eight beautiful passenger trains running simultaneously in some beautiful settings. They had as good a time as we did sharing train experiences and running the trains.

Our day finished off by my wife serving lobster for dinner. It was a wonderful time. Having friends like this in the hobby greatly improves the enjoyment. We look forward to seeing them at the upcoming York Meet and for a return visit next summer.

The point to this story is every time you enlarge your friendship base in our hobby, the more you will enjoy it.

Glad you had a good time with Laz and welcom to the forum. Where I live there are few train fans to share in the hobby. Why??? I have no clue.

KRM, Laz and his wife are great people. Minnie is super as well.

Now if you can excuse me, I'll be packin' my suitcase.

All I can say to this is bring your bathing suit, the water temperature in the lake is 78 degrees now.

Great story! All I know is, when I talk openly about my enjoyment of the hobby, it is amazing how many people are either model railroaders, or have some stories about toy trains.
