What is up?
Posted by phrankenstign on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 10:09 AM

For some reason, two of the topics I started have been locked.  I tried to send Mr. Keller and Ms. Schweitzer messages, but I don't know if they got through.  I asked them who the moderator(s) is/are, because I wanted to ask why my topics had been locked.  Looking through the list of recent CTT topics, apart from Mr. Keller's and Ms Schweiter's own threads, mine are the only ones that have been locked.  I wanted, and still want, to know if I'd broken any forum rules/policies.  (I didn't think I had.)  If I did, then at least I'd know not to repeat what I'd done.  So far, I haven't gotten any response from either person, so I'm still in the dark.  The only reason I can think of that even comes close is that I asked rtraincollector NOT to click on my "Freebies" thread if he didn't want to help me.  I thought his previous comment about my thread having gone on too long was rude.  After all, on how many other threads has he posted a comment like that?

Last week Mr. Weller suggested I call the 1-800 number to ask about the back issues with freebies.  I did, and the customer service rep gave me some interesting information I wanted to add to that thread.  I believe current subscribers would be happy to learn what I discovered.  Unfortunately that's when I found out my threads were locked.

Obviously any new topic that is started is NOT going to be loved by everybody.  However there are usually at least a few people who will find a topic interesting enough to comment on it.  My "Freebies" thread has replies by a few different people, while it has over a thousand views.  That probably means there are quite a few members who ARE interested in the subject matter there.  They may not have anything to add, but they may want to know what information other members have to offer.  I certainly learned a few things already, and I was about to add more NEW info I just learned.  All I ask is that I be told why my threads are now locked, and what I can do to get them unlocked.

I didn't see an e-mail from you, but in both cases I thought you were trolling. I mean prank is in your screen name, right?

No.  I'm a big fan of the Universal Monsters from the 20s-40s.  My favorite of those films is Frankenstein (1931).  I modified the name by changing the 'F' to 'ph' which has the same sound, and "stein" to "stign" as in the word "sign" with a 't'.

I've used my "phrankenstign" ID as a login for all kinds of web-sites and forums.  You're the first to suggest it has anything to do with pranking.

Why would I want to troll in my own threads?  I came here for help from the CTT community.  I was hoping to perhaps make some friends on-line here.  I've been a subscriber over the years, and I just re-subscribed for 3 more years when I called the 1-800 number.  I've lurked around this forum for years, and I finally decided to post something.  It was a drag to have someone I don't know tell me I was nit-picking and trying all I could to keep my thread going.  To then tell me my thread had gone on long enough was him trolling.  Rather than belittle him, I asked him to not click on my thread if he didn't want to help me.

I was hoping to add some new information I'd found to the "freebies" one.  Since there are pics there already, people reading that thread will know exactly what I'm referring to immediately.

With regards to the other one about the catalogs, it seems you were the only person replying to it.  If others weren't replying to that one, then I didn't want to clutter up the main list with another one.  I did want to add some new comments there though to share what I've already compiled.

It's kind of funny to see this thread and the two locked threads continue to get views as people with enquiring minds try to learn the full story.  Too bad I can't sell tickets!  LOL

You started a topic and wasn't happy with any answer you got to the point Bob finally locked it as it struck him as type and your name says prank if you remove the h you ask these questions heres your answer.

As for as your other post must be real hard for you to figure something out when your the only one posting to them huh

I didn't want to have a flame war with you before, and I don't want to do so now.

I don't understand why you feel the need to post negative comments on threads you aren't interested in.  Why not just ignore them and get on with life?

I never said I wasn't happy with any answer.  I appreciate those who posted questions, comments, and new information.  Your comparison of the subscription total versus the newsstand total was helpful also.  It made me think, "How can that be lowered?"  After thinking about it, I came up with a slightly cheaper way to get the bagged issue.  Why that angered you surprised me.  I didn't---and still don't---understand what bothered you about it.

As for the other thread, there are a few possibilities why others haven't posted.
  • They are not interested at all in organizing their catalogs and flyers.
  • They are interested, but they haven't organized their own stuff yet.  They've been waiting to find a list somewhere like I was.
  • They are interested, but it seems like too much work to look through their collection.
  • They are interested, but they didn't know how to identify many of the flyers and catalogs without titles.
  • They weren't sure what kind of format or type of organization I was looking for.
  • They were waiting to see if anyone else posted a ready-made list first.

I will continue to collect and organize my train stuff whether I get help or not.  I'm a retired U.S.A.F. guy.  I've got plenty of time to continue soldiering on with it.  I'd definitely make more progress quickly with help than without.  However I'm not going to lose the will to live if I have to do it alone.  I'll survive! Smile

BTW Here's a fun fact:  If you remove the "rt" from "rtraincollector" the name becomes "raincollector".  Yes, it's a lot of fun.  However it doesn't mean anything significant.

Finally......

If I am indeed an island when it comes to these topics, maybe I'll go back to my lurking ways around here.  I'll continue to have fun collecting, running, and organizing my modest collection of toy trains and related items.  They are a valuable source of fun to me, and that won't change.

I hope everyone here has a wonderful day!

Probably just ran afoul of some of influence - and I don't mean RT. The email underground has a strong influence. Most of my posts and threads end up being deleted to this day because I got sideway with a couple of folks, oh about eight or nine years ago. I post and the Moderator's In Box "lights up like a Christmas tree."

Here's a photo that'l probably be deleted faster than you can say "Ignore! Ignore! Ignore!"

That pic should be in CTT!  Great shot!!!

I'm sorry to learn about the deletions.  If you have more pics like this one, it would be a drag for anyone to delete them.  Pics like that inspire others.

The reason they got deleted Frank mention who was selling them and they considered it as advertising it and they don't allow free advertising . Any way they get touch over here about that. they get real touch at the other forum period about stuff like that even more so than here. There was a guy that was going to open a hobby shop in Ohio and someone asked where and they deleted the post lol

Frank, Nailed the problem here and on other self moderated Fourms, "The email underground has a strong influence." You could call it a click or whatever, childish seems to fit well. Worst part is the management at some of the places seem to be part of it.

I have been there and done that. Then when I purge all of the addresses and tell everyone I am not going to partake in the backwash I really get hit.  So I just try to stick to trains and train things I do. More than I can say for most.

Nuf said. Zip it!

So just post away and hope for the best. It is about trains, no one has to read them if they don't want to.

Have a good holiday. Done with this subject.

The reason they got deleted Frank mention who was selling them and they considered it as advertising it and they don't allow free advertising .

That was a recent example. I posted photos of new buildings a guy was making and mentioned him by name. Poof! Of course, if I post an engine and say "Look at this great new engine from Lionel - isn't that the same?

Nonetheless, that was a recent example, and I have years worth of deleted posts and even the endorsement of one of the "email network" setting up a bogus account with my avatar and screen name "Hank53" to do I still don't know what.

That guy doesn't get his posts deleted.

It ain't what you know, it's who.

Uh, Frank, you did submit the building information to the magazine as a press release, and I am running them in product news. It was a bit more involved than your simply saying this guy makes nice stuff. It was in fact, an ad. You need to move on, dude. If I had known deleting your threads those many years ago would have upset you so badly, I would have just moderated your posts.

Oh, and you are one of the best craftsmen in the hobby.

That's your opinion Bob.

To borrow your phrase Bob "No need to get snarky." I can't say I ever understood why CTT doesn't want informational posts like "how to build this or that" but it's your sand box.

Oh, and you are one of the best craftsmen in the hobby.

Nah, I'm just a guy who was building a layout. But I was certainly gratified by having had a half dozen articles I wrote for CTT published in the magazine and at least another half dozen layout photos published over the years. I've still got at least another dozen articles half written in the hopper. One day I'll find the time to finish them.

EDIT  I originally started to post the following message after having read Frank's 1st post here.  I was called away and finished it an hour later.  Now I see both Bob and Frank have posted other things that my comments have nothing to do with.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've posted in various forums, and it's not a good thing when the moderators are part of or in collusion with the cliques that try to push other members around.

Can anyone tell me who moderates this board?  I asked Bob Keller, but he just ignored my question.

I missed your question, but I am the primary moderator for the the CTT forum. I am also probably the most hands off moderator in the trains.com forums. I hardly push people around.

Bob, I didn't mean to imply you were pushing anyone around.  It was simply an acknowlegment it's not a good thing when it happens (in general).  That's why I went back to my previous post to add that "EDIT" statement.

Frank,

In my opinion, the best post you had deleted was about Lionel moving back to the USA. Had everyone sucked in.

I believe that phrankenstign's questions have been answered, so lest this become a "Frank's Best Deleted Posts" thread, I'm going to lock this down. The Coffee Pot is always open.
