Ads in Forum

This forum is getting very unfriendly, I am certain I picked up a nasty device here called Adcloud, hopefully I'm wrong.  Extremely dificult to get back to thread index with all the "hot spots".  Finally, closed the window and re-opened!  Won't do that a lot, to troublesome.  I don't think Im the only one dissatisfied, the activity level is really down, in case no one has noticed.

Don,

A clarification for the majority of posters:

Adware, or advertising-supported software, is any software package which automatically renders advertisements in order to generate revenue for its author. The advertisements may be in the user interface of the software or on a screen presented to the user during the installation process. The functions may be designed to analyze which Internet sites the user visits and to present advertising pertinent to the types of goods or services featured there. The term is sometimes used to refer to software that displays unwanted advertisements.

I don't have any indications that Adware is on my computer, but as you know I use a very strong protection program due to the Chief. LOL

It seems every year or so they have to make changes Don, I use  Adblock Plus on my laptop and don’t seem to get any pop-ups. Maybe you should look into that.
This looks to be the same system they have on MR but it seems to work there.
My biggest complaint is the same as Frank’s. Spell check does not work on here. For me that is bad. I am not a good speller and sometimes it is so bad spell check can’t even figure out what I am trying to do.
The other thing that bugs me is the ascending descending function. One page will come up ascending and move to another page and it is descending and the ascending descending function buttons don’t work for me. I am running Windows 8.1 with Firefox. Do a reply and it will swap from ascending to descending???
I just hope they work on it and don’t just leave it the way it is.
Buckeye, you should market your Chief protection software. Wink

Kev for spell check I've given up so I open up my yahoo mail like I'm making a mail to send I copy what I have and paste it there then copy the corrected post and past that where the other was and post. I have tried spell check on here with ie 11, firefox, and chrome none work so I gave up oh you will have to delete the draft in yahoo but that's what I'm down to and it shouldn't be this way but it is.

Don I picked up a add-ware some where and I found it in my downloads I think anyway it would highlight different word combo's that would show up in different post so you could click on and take you there  and funny it only appeared here on Trains forums

Actually I was using chrome and had to goto settings thing in upper right corner then put cursor over more tools and slide it over extensions and that's where I found the item

I'm not familiar with the ad problem - I presume you are talking about third party ads. The only ads that pop up om my computer or iPad are Kalmbach related. FWIW there isn't a CTT server. There is a jumbo server that serves all the Kalmbach titles forums and websites. I can't say I've seen this problem (again, outside ads) mentioned on the other tracks titles. Next week everyone will be back from the holidays and I'll query online publishing about it.

Regarding the adcloud issue it was only THIS forum that I had the problem.  Anyway I picked up some malware software and resolved it.  I got the malware installed on 3 computers now and they all work better.  And I only use one computer to come to this site now.  So that all helps.  I still have issues with ALL the "Hot Spots" on this forum though.

I haven't had this problem with pop up ads as described. I use a Chromebook and no issues with this.

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.

The hot spot pop ups are very annoying on my iPad. Can't really use this forum from it. They don't seem to be an issue on our Macbook with Firefox though.

I would venture a guess it is your ipad. I have one too. I would never buy another ipad product. Apple wants to run everything on it, and the user has very little to say about it. Rant over...

PS: Sometimes low cost ISP service will blast your computer with ads that you can't block. That would not be the case on an ipad.

In my view, it's kinda like when the wife asks, "Does this dress look good on me....?"

There simply is no right answer now, is there? Zip it!

Junk!!!  Don't blame CTT.  The company is more interested in billing and subscriptions for its MANY publications than a forum.

Some of us are going to question just what next week you are talking about.

I see nothing fixed or working better. This stuff jumps all over the place.

JMHO!  Tongue Tied

I don't get it. makes it very to enjoy.

Not the forums fault, as a professional I.T. guy of 25 years experience, I can tell you that.
