Madison cars - Postwar
Posted by cbtrainman on Thursday, December 18, 2014 9:22 AM

Hi fellow collectors...

I acquired a beautiful set of Madison cars. Excellent paint.  One problem: there is light mold/mildew residue on them from long time basement storage. Do you have suggestions on removal process that won't damage paint? Thanks, and best wishes.  Dave

Try applying some Crisco vegetable shortening to the mold/mildew, then wipe off after a minute.

Has the mildew/mold left white like spots in the paint?

Postwar cars were painted with oil based paint which mildew feeds on and there is no way to eliminate the damage. If you try to hide the damage with a coating that will evaporate, it will come back.

I have developed a way to hide the damage permanently as part of my business and personnel collection.
