I'm thinking of getting a beater Lionel shell, painting it up and swapping the shells with an RMT-Aristocraft GG1. Will the screw holes line up, or am I looking at a chore?
Thanks!
Mitch
A picture of your shell showing the current mounting holes would be nice.

My first question would probably be post war or modern shell as I have not owned either but most items from the 2 periods have different drill patterns. Now I do believe they are old K-line molds or may even be Williams

The RMT GG1 is from K-Line tooling. Their model had a door and add-in grab irons. The Lionel and Williams models make the engineer climb in through the window.

The Lionel GG1 ( the dual motor version ) has 6 body mount screws holding the 2 piece chassis. 2 of the screws are hidden under the small chassis section. Not sure whether they'd mate up only because I'm not familiar with other versions of the GG1. A pic of the other chassis sure would help.

Well, I HAD hoped to have the question answered without dismantling my GG1, but...
Here's the shell I bought off eBay:
And here's the RMT shell:
Looks like it'll be a dropin installation. Will hafta add some cable clamps to the Lionel shell to hold the wire harnesses, I s'pose...
After a day's worth of fiddling, fitting and filing, the answer is: Nope. Won't work, as there are too many casting bosses and such in the Lionel GG-1 shell (again, see the above comparison).
Oh, well. Anybody got a spare Lionel GG1 chassis they don't want? (hopeful look)
