lionel, beatles, and a 1666 steamer
Posted by railfanespee4449 on Monday, November 8, 2004 9:42 AM
Has lionel produced or is planning to produce a Beatles special train? I may be 12, but i like the beatles a lot, and i'd be thrilled to have a Beatles special on my layout. Also, I have a lionel #1666 steamer. Did the 1666 have smoke?
Also, does anyone ever model a place from TV or a song? I am modeling Penny Lane[:D][:D][:D]

P.S. Lionel, if you do make a beatles set, PLEASE add a boxcar that plays beatles songs.
Call me crazy, but I LIKE Zito yellow. RAILFANESPEE4449

RGS Trains specializes in custom painting Lionel rolling stock, and has done a series of Beatle-themed boxcars as well as a "Yellow Submarine" flatcar. I don't think they have a website, but they can be found at the larger train shows in the northeast.

A few years ago, Corgi issued a "Magical Mystery Tour" bus, Newspaper Taxi and Lovely Rita Meter Maid figure, and a "Penny Lane" double-decker bus.

Info on the 1666 steamer can be found at www.postwarlionel.com

If it plays Beatles songs, I hope they are the latter songs like yellow submarine or We are the egg men, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds etc.

Bobby Strickln at Trainbuddies trainbuddies.com often has the various RGS Beatles trains for sale. Just search for Beatle.

Here are the first six:

(I think there were two versions of the yellow submarine flat car. One with a yellow flatcar and one with a black flatcar.)

Here is the latest:

I also saw a custom flatcar on ebay that had the Corgi Yellow Submarine on it. It looked pretty cool.

Hello Railfanespee ! The pre & postwar 1666s never had smoke in them at all. You might want to try a 2026 which was made from the 1666 tooling which was re-desingned to include a smoke generator. The early 2026s from 1948-49 are pretty much the same setup as a 1666 the difference being that a 2026 had a larger sand dome on top whereas on a 1666 it was much smaller. Stewarts hobbies here in Willoughby has a 2026 in decent shape for $ 139.00 I'll e-mail their address to you if you want.Take care and have fun with your trains[:)][:)] Keith.
