415 Diesel Station fits........

Does anyone have an idea on how the string line is set for the diesel station? I bought a station on eBay, and the bottom of the station had been apart, (tabs bent down). There was one of the sinkers sitting in the bottom of the box it came in. I'm not sure of how the string is placed with the sinkers at the end with the solenoid. The copper finger like spring that holds the line with the sinkers is there, but the string has frayed on the end and is about to break off. The other sinker is attached but the string I think should be replaced. My only question is on which side does the sinker furthest from the end go on the copper spring, and how do you set it to operate properly?
Does any body have an idea? I sure could you a hand as I am trying to put this back together for my eight year old son and my christmas layout. Thank you in advance. Eric T.

As you tell it, it's probably working like an electric doorbell. Which results in a vibrating platform. Is that correct?
If so, the platform or anything attached to it will function as a trigger for the solenoid. One end of the solenoid is attached to ground, most likely to be the base of the building.
The other end is on a switch like contact, or something acting like it. The idea behind it is that if the platform is "up" the solenoid gets power. This will pull the platform down to the solenoid and with it, shutt of the power to the solenoid. Because the power seazes, the platform will be pushed back with a spring to "up" position where the whole circus starts again.
May be I'm totally wrong, but a picture of the parts or base or something of the groundplate would be really helpfull..

Hello PWLionel Eric! If you happen to have a train or hobby shop near you look for a copy of Greenburgs Postwar Lionel trains parts & service manuel from 1945-1969 inside you will find a diagram for your accessory and it should show how to re-string the mechanism inside or look up Dr.Tinker's toy train parts on your computer,look up his phone# and call him.Tell him your dilemma and see if he can help you out. He used to work for Lionel 40 yrs ago He should be able to help you .Good luck to You. Keith[:)]

Thanks, for the replys and info. My brother said that he found the article in CTT about the station. He said Lionel never published any parts or sevice info on it. Go figure. Thanks again. Dr. Tinker is my hero in train repairs. I just sent him an email. Maybe I can get him to look at my 345 Culvert loader too. I'm not good at string operated accessories I guess.
