So what Investor speculators are the enemy of this hobby. FACT: in real dollars, collectible trains are worth less than they were 20 years ago.

True enough, but it will make getting hold of any of these engines more expensive. *sigh*

I have a feeling that anything manufactured by Lionel LLC may go up in value in 3 or 4 years time.
