I recently pulled out my "wish" list for York. I'm adding a couple 5906 whistle controllers for my revised control panel as I'm adding conventional operation as a running option. These along with a couple CSX es44ac's and the lionel motor city express set. Also a few things under the "if I see it" category. I'm also looking forward to meeting people on the forum as I like to put a face to the name. So my question is do you have a list and what's on it?
Lots of em!
To begin with, I often pull out books like Greenberg's Guides or Doyles Standard Catalogs and make up search lists based on what I'm interrested in at the moment. Usually they're about 50 / 50 as to serious collecting and buying versus items I'm seeking more information about. I scroll ebay just about every day for many reasons but top of the list is "because I love toy trains". So, I might decide I'm in the mood to look for any and all items with Nickel Plate Road, Norfolk and Western or another road's markings. Those don't require lists per se, but if I'm in the mood to look at postwar diesels or prewar electrics then I make up a list of numbers. But out of all of those lists maybe one half of one percent of the time leads to an actual acquisition.
The second type of lists I keep are my "looking for lists". I have prewar, postwar and MPC versions. The postwar and MPC lists are mostly lists of scout cars and Columbia 2-4-2's. If I'm actually able to go to a show and spend money, I add things I need like parts.
The other kind of list I have is the unwritten "lottery list". You know, those trains that get the "free pass". Top of that list is a 392E pulling Stephen Girard cars. Also at the top of the list (everything is at the "top" on a lottery list) is a 385E. Next is a 385E then an 1835E. This list changes based on current moods so after those Standard Gauge beauties are in my stable it's pretty much a toss up!
One thing that will never be on any of my wish lists is the Lionel 75th anniversary set. Blech! Ugliest train ever!
