Problem with 6-18401 hand car need suggestions
Posted by 41Woodie on Thursday, August 21, 2014 7:45 PM

Purchased this item new in June and have been very pleased with it until today.  It started forward then stopped and won't move at all.  A bit of dis-assembly and tinkering reveals that the worm gear and ring gear are locking up.  I've fiddled it apart and together several times but still nothing.  When apart the ring gear and pumping mechanism work fine and the motor runs fine when tested out of the chassis.  Nothing appears to be excessively worn, broken etc. but they aren't meshing properly.  Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. The service manual, page 10,   has similar handcars to yours. Replace the worm gear, and make sure the arm and gear assembly is turning straight, and not wobbling as it turns.
