AF Log Loader Sticking
Posted by gottcent on Saturday, May 10, 2014 5:00 PM

I have a postwar American Flyer log loader (#23787). Lately, it will not start up after I flip on the switch unless I remove the roof and gently twist the motor shaft by hand. Then it runs fine for several cycles, but if I switch the motor off even for a few seconds and then switch it back on again, it sticks until I twist the shaft again. (I'm using an on-off slide switch instead of the push button that came with the unit.) I suspect a dirty motor, but my question is--how do I get to that motor? Is there a schematic or parts diagram available anywhere?

try oiling the front and rear shaft bearings. the motor is a AC induction motor and rarely goes bad. the other cause for sticking could be the gear box needs a good cleaning.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll give them a try.
