American Flyer Prewar 545 Loco and Passenger Car Set

Hello folks, My father had his American Flyer train set restored a few years ago, it has Engine # 545 and tender, and two red passenger cars, # 495 coach and #494 baggage. It appears to me that there were 3 cars in this set originally, but all he ever got was 2, he thinks it was a hand me down to him. How did this set come? 3 cars? 4 cars? I have seen (I think) cars 496 and 497, which are another coach, and observation, and I have seen them in blue, or red. I would like to get him the other car or cars, if I can for restoration to match his, how many ways was this set offered? Was this set only offered in 1938 and 1939? Please help! Thanks!

WabashCB - Looks like your father has the set named "Pathfinder Passenger". The loco was sold only in 1940. Check out the link below and yo will find that he has a complete set.

Thank you so much for this information, we have the complete set then as listed in the catalog page you linked me to, 12 pieces of curved track, 1 straight, one uncoupler track with control button, and the 75 watt transformer. The transformer has been gone through, but is in less than good cosmetic condition, and the track is very poor looking. Can the track be restored, or is it not worth it? How about the uncoupler track? The train has been restored, but as I mentioned in another post, we are missing the left side eccentric link, anyone have any info on where we may find one? Check Port Line Hobbies for the eccentric link.  The K-5 locomotive was produce for many years but most were as 4-6-2 Pacific wheel arrangements. It may be possible to get an eccentric for a K-5 Pacific and modify it by lengthening it to fit the 4-4-2 wheel arrangement on this prewar locomotive.
