I tried downloading the AtlasRR demo for railroad layout, but they have no O31 track on their software.

I tried to get the demo for RR-Track but they no longer offer a demo, I have downloaded like 5 demos of other things, and they all ....

I am setting up a O31 4x8 layout and would like to try out some software that would let me do the layout before I get building

None that I know of. You should just check out Thor's website (long may he run!)and look at, and digest all the great set ups he's got. For the most part, supersnap matches Lionel 031. There's a lot of great classic, and modern layouts on Thors site. Tons of 4x8s.

I can say from experience, the RRTrack4 software is well worth the cost for sheer entertainment value.

The fun way to do it is to make a table (or just use the floor), buy a bunch of track and switches and try many different combinations with YOUR trains. Supersnap is perfect for this.

Good luck,

You mentioned elsewhere that you are a programmer. Perhaps you could write a program to draw your own layout.

If it's any help, the radius of the O27 center rail is 12 1/2 inches. Since the ties are about 2 inches long, this makes the outside diameter 27 inches. The straight sections are 12.5 inches divided by the square-root of 2, or about 8 7/8 inches.

O31 straight sections are 10 inches long. The radius of the curves is 10 inches times the square-root of 2, or about 14 1/8 inches. With 2 1/4 inch long ties, this makes the outside diameter 30.534 or about 30 1/2 inches.
