Hey all,
I'm not exactly new to trains, but I'm not an expert either, so here I am!
I have 2 engines that need some work. I want to get them up and running before Christmas so I can have them running around my tree.
The first is a Lionel Hogwarts Express loco. The only issue seems to be the engine has something in the running gear bent, or something is wrong and causing something to bind when the engine is moving, therefore causing the engine to make a loud clacking noise with each turn of the drivers (Trust me, it definitely doesn't sound right). Other than that the engine is fine. I assume since this is a minimal problem I could just ship this one off to an Authorized Service Station or Lionel itself, right?
The second is a bit more difficult. It's a Lionel Erie Hudson from the 2004 Riding the Rails Hobo Set. The engine runs, however, the whistle in the tender no longer works, the smoke unit is out, and headlight has gone out as well.
I'd like to have the Hudson modified a bit. If possible I'd like to get it fitted with a fan driven smoke unit, and maybe even sound. Is there a place that does this? I remember Train America Studios did once but I think they have gone out of business. If there isn't then should I just ship this one to the same place as Hogwarts and just have the issues fixed?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Ooops. That might be useful to know, indeed. lol. I alternate between eastern South Carolina and western North Carolina. I think there is an SS in Spencer, NC, but I'm not sure.
Spencer choo choo shop sends their repairs out. I know the man who does the repairs. You can also try Toms Train station in Raleigh. A man named Len does their work in his own shop in the back.
