Painting Track
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 27, 2004 6:52 PM
I have been hard at work at laying track and a cork road bed for my portable layout. I also put down extra ties to make the O27 track look much more realistic. I was thinking of painting the outside rails a rust color and the inside black. I know I need to leave the top or the rails sliver so the train stll gets power. I was wondering what type of paint any of you have used in the past? How did it turn out? Do you have any pictures?

Jim,

I used a method taught to me by someone else on the internet.

I used Rustoleum rusty metal primer spray paint and paint it on at a 30 to 45 degree angle. I thin go back and spray the ties flat black at a 90 degree angle. Take a cloth with paint thinner on it an wipe down the tops of the rails when you are done.

It looks really good on the sections I have done.
