I have a Lionel 1666 Locomotive. The motor runs well, but the pick-up shoes are getting quite worn out. The E-unit trips when going over switches. I picked up a Polar Express 0-8-0 a few weeks ago. Nice running locomotive, ( love the valve gear ) The 0-8-0 has a nice set of spring loaded center rail pick up rollers. Can I get a set of these new rollers somewhere and replace the old pick-up shoes on my 1666 ?
Steve
There are no snap in rollers for that engine but you can replace the slide shoes.

The contact shoes are part #1661-33. The entire slide shoe assembly is part #2026M-4. The roller shoe plate #2036-112 LOOKS like it may be a drop in replacement for the slide shoe plate. Call a parts dealer and ask them to physically compare the 2 plates and see if they are interchangeable. If not, replace the contact shoes. If you still have a problem stalling on turnouts, if your tender has a whistle, wire a jumper wire, through a plug and socket, from the tender roller pickup to the loco slide shoe assembly. This will give you continuous power through the turnouts, and solve the stalling problem. If your tender does not have a whistle, you may be able to add a 482-3 baseplate and roller assembly to one tender truck, and wire the roller to the loco as stated above.
