What year was it that Marx went from stamped metal to plastic sideframes on their freight cars? I just bought a green New York Central Boxcar that is dated 1961 and has plastic sideframes. I didn't think that started until later in the sixties. Does anybody know for sure?
I am by no means a Marx expert but I do have a guide book which states that Marx produced plastic freight cars as early as 1952.
Anyone else?

No Ray that sounds about right, although I do remember seeing metal Marx trains for sale at the end of the 50s. Some say they switched because of new child safety laws but it could have been that plastic was cheaper but it's also the way their toy line was changing to plastic as well.

SJ - My Marx Wells Fargo set was made 1959-1960 and although the loco and tender are plastic the baggage and passenger cars are metal.
One of the few real Marx collectables.
I have some plastic Marx trains also, but they have all metal trucks under them. They appear to be stamped metal. This car is plastic also but has trucks with metal wheels but plastic sideframes. I was wondering when the plastic sideframes started.
