does anyone have the ones lionel made in like the early 2000s like abs plastic looking tanks....just wondering to see what they look like on a layout....to see if i could justify paying around $40 on ebay for one...
Unless you can find one at a train meet that someone is parting with, $40 sounds about right. I always thought the storage tanks were priced a little high. There are some enterprising folks out there that offer custom made tanks, but they're even more pricey than the LIONEL offerings.
right now i think id rather spend that on something else...maybe ill just get a coffee can..some grey paint and a few sonoco pictures printed out haha maybe a straw or two
I've seen them for $20 at some shows, but they are few and far between.

I saw somewhere (CTT?) a guy used oil filters for tanks. You may even find one that has an oil company logo on it already.
A PVC pipe coupling could also work. Just glue a styrene roof to it and paint it up.
