To all,
I see where the new Lionel Christmas Catalog is online. Looks like a real winner. Lots of new Polar Express items. Really like the Diesel version. Very sharp. Just wish I had room for all of it. Wonder why they have not made any more new cars for the original set. I would think the engine could pull more. Lots of adds on for existing sets. Interesting postwar themed cars. May have to get the 6050 style car as it is based on the 6014/9040 Cheap Classic box car series. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

I stopped in my LHS on Saturday. The owner had his advanced copy on the counter waiting for me - saw me drive by earlier in the day and rightly figured I'd stop by sometime.
I'll agree. After leafing through it, I think that it could be called the 'Polar Express' catalog! Think I'll put a 10th anniversary boxcar on order.
Looked at it yesterday with my FiL... found one item that I am really looking forward to (NPC Zepher) and when I mentioned that I would have to build another loop for under the tree he said "Well order it put then!"... so I'll be calling the LTS today or tomorrow to do as I am told! I may order one of the present freight stations as well.I have to sit down and watch The Polar Express with my daughter to see if she is interested in that... we'll see.

The length of the train in the movie is relative to the action taking place in the scene. The only cars really seen are the baggage, coach and observation. There's probably kitchen car somewhere foreward where the hot cocoa waiters hide out, but it seems to dissappear from the consist. On the other hand, while "boy" and "hobo" are skiing along the celestories the train gets longer and shorter at least a dozen times based on the viewing angle. Similarly, the 4 car train that arrives at "boy's" house seems to be at least 20 cars long as it flies past the wolves in the woods. The hot cocoa is served in the same day coach that most of the other nameless children never leave. But Lionel added a hot cocoa car to lengthen the set. They did the abandoned toys baggage car (marionette car) but there's nothing else left from the film to add. And since it's doubtful there will ever be a PE2 I'd guess that's all we're going to get. Building up a fictional freight side to PE railroading adds dimensions to the story based on the imagination of the operator. I'd say it's a safe guess that that's where Lionel is putting it's hope for future PE revenue.

Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
One can never have too many passenger cars, a long train is much more impressive than a short one! Case in point: I bought the Lionel New Jersey Transit set last year, only comes with three cars. Got the two-car add on set at the same time. Much more impresseive. Found three more NJT cars from an earlier issue at a train meet for an eight car total consist. VERY impressive!
Who cares how many cars were in the "Polar Express" movie? I didn't like the film anyway, thought the computer animation was creepy, to say the least. It would have been better if they'd shot it live action.
The book, however, always leaves me misty eyed.
Just what the doctor ordered; a little Christmas in July!
Thanks, Big L.

It's really tough to beat the Christmas feeling but IMO there is an even bigger season, Easter. Hope everyone has a terrific July 4. Best wishes to everyone.

So many roads, so little time.
If it keeps getting hotter around here I may just try beating the heat by playing some "Toy Trains and Christmas" DVD's!
Ah, the Train Station! I always try to work in a visit when I'm back in Jersey, once maybe twice a year. A fun , fun place.
Oh course, I have to work the Train Station in with visits to bakeries, pizzarias, burger joints, you get the picture.
If it wasn't for all of the above everyone left in NJ would leave!
Jersey diners! How could I forget? Lady Firestorm and I are BIG diner afficionados and would rather go there than any tony hi-class restaurant.
But not at 2:00 AM. I meet enough interesting, uh, "people" during the week as it is. Nothing good happens at two or three AM as far as I'm concerned.
And how about that "Tick-Tock" incident?
By the way, there's a website called "Roadside Online", all about diners and diner lore. Check it out, it's fun!

And how could I forget Van Dyks Ice Cream in Ridgewood? The best!
Good evening all,
Have to say this is one of the fastest turnarounds by Lionel in terms of the online catalog to print version. I started this thread on June 23rd, and I received the hard copy today. Most impressive. As always, what looks good on the net looks even better when turning actual pages. I hope everyone has a good day.

Hi DJSpanky! Lady Firestorm used to visit the P&B Diner in Glassboro NJ with her friends at 2:00 AM from time to time. This was NOT due to "munchies" induced by "you know what."
There was a great comment by a poster on NJ.com concerning the "Tick-Tock" flap. I quote:
"Man, I LOVE North Jersey! Guess where I'm going for dinner tonight!"
I had an interesting conversation with a Lionel dealer today about the ornaments and related products. I asked whether or not they would stock any items. They were not sure. I also asked if the ornaments would be exclusive to the dealers or sold thru general merchants as well. They were not sure on that point either. Just some observations at this point.
Cheapclassics, you'll probably have better luck finding Lionel ornaments at a Hallmark store.
Just a guess on my part.
