Howdy all,
If I want to attach my O27 track to my doorway layout, should I use nails or screws? I saw a thread about using #4 screws. It also said to come to this forum for more information, but I sure can't find it. Can anybody help me out?
Thanks,
Brody
I guess it depends on what you're attaching the track to and if you plan on removing the track later. If you're going right into wood you could use either but it seems to me screws would be easier.
First - [welcome] to the forumAs to your question. "It depends"If you are using a standard open core door, then attaching the track directly to the door will cause the core to act like a drum there by amplifying the noise. You can compensate for this by putting a layer of soundstop, homasote, ceiling tiles, or 1/2 to 3/4 foam sheet on the door, you would then attach the track to the sound barrier (do not penetrate the sound barrier and hit the wood this will eliminate the sound barrier's effect).ALWAYS use #4 screws to attach your track to whatever you are attaching it to. That way when you decide to change the layout or need to replace a bad section, you can easily unscrew the track and away you go. Just make sure you do not over tighten the screw and cause the 'ties' to dimple.

I can't remember where I read to use the screws that hold a VHS tape together to lay your track. They are perfect! Just thin enough and there are about 6 to 8 usable screws in each tape. I had a recycling bin half full of those things and now I have enough screws to lay track on my 9x10 L shape and more!
