lionel train set "super O" about to be aquired . Worth???

I i do lawn work for a few people around my area. I came a cross a complete set of lionel trains in the basment of somones house.. The husband was the one that owned them but he pasted away like 10years ago.. the trains are next to new. does neone know how much there worth? well indevidually? like for each train car... there from the late 50's with the small red white and blue boxz. if i cant ge tthem all she will let me have a few. is there anyones i need to look for? I need info ASAPbecause the son is coming up in a few days and he will probly take them all!!! gr..

It's really hard to say what they're worth without knowing specific product numbers. Is there any chance that you can get those?

Super O(brown plastic ties and a copper center rail on the track) were generally the more high-end sets in the years that they were produced, so it will most likely be worth more than other sets from that same year. All this, though, depends on the condition and completeness of the set, as well as the completeness of each individual component. Without specific set numbers, it's impossible to give even a ballpark estimate.

hey here are some of the #s from the trains...

most are on a scale from 1 to 10 i would rate them a 8 to 9.
.. tell me what you think.. most of this stuff have there oringinal box's.

For the 2454, I need to know the road name and the color of the doors. For the 3459, I need to know the color of the bin, and whether it's aluminum or steel. I couldn't find the 3182, 3116, and 3186 listed anywhere in my price guide. Are you sure about the numbers? Are you sure that these particular pieces are in fact Lionel?

Most of these items are from the late '40s. The track, if it is Super O would have been added later. The period from 1945-55 is when Lionel produced some its highest quality post war items.

Unless, the pictures are of trains... then they're worth a million words


If you can take a few photos, post them for others to view, as quickly as possible.

If you can't post them, perhaps you can email them to several of the people posting in this thread.

I know you mentioned they were "O" scale, but if you find a small wooden "gondola"... with the words "Electric Express" written in gold italics... I would probably choose that one... if that was the only choice I had.

It might not look too appealing on your layout.... but, it sure would look great in your "Railroad Museum"! [:)]
