Lionel Cruise Commander l 6-ELRR1 Question???
Posted by KRM on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 10:32 AM

I have a question. Will the Lionel Cruise Commander  6-ELRR1 provide cruise control in a mid 90s duel engine Dash 8 40C without a Legacy or a TMCC system, just running a conventional ZW operation?  Hmm

I do not have TMCC or Legacy but would like Cruise control and don't plan on getting TMCC or Legacy because I have no TMCC or Legacy engines, only conventional.

How hard is it to install in a Dash 8 6-18214 and post war engines??

Thanks,

Come to York, then take a short drive to my house and I can show you Legacy inaction. Have the older TMCC as well, but it is not setup on any of my layouts... yet.

ERR stated it will improve your running some but not worth spending like $145 or so for. Unless your going to go with tmcc or legacey system you really wouldn't get what your really after.

Also wheather you realize it or not doing so your converting your engine into tmcc but it still will work fine in the conventional mode. Also from what  have been told legacy system like brent and the others have can actually get the engines with just tmcc in them to do things that I can't with tmcc or rather inhance the opperation of said engines

And of coarse you talking about the dash I had to take mine off the shelf and move it up to the shelf layout and run it some today as it hasn't run since I put it in it.

If it has a pullmor/AC open frame motor, cruise control isn't possible (so far anyway).  If it has a DC Can motor, then yes, it will give you cruise control

KEV - Fife runs all conventional, but he has the Big MTH transformer and PS2 locos, with that setup he gets really good 'cruise control'. I have never run my Legacy engines in conventional mode so I can't give you any feedback there, but I have run TMCC engines and TMCC with Odessey Speed control and the standard TMCC there is no difference in conventional vs a non-TMCC engine, but the Odessey Speed Control system does give you a bit of speed control.

As for your comment - nothing. It is part of the hobby. Smile York is 1.25 hours from my house, so if you ever make it to York I'm sure Fife and I could arrange for a bit of a 'layout tour'. He is about an hour from my house.
