help! i need info on a lionel train

hi im new and i realy dont know much about model trains though i do have a few. my boss has one that he wanted informaition on and i told him id help but its been weeks and im having a realy hard time. if someone could help me out id realy appretiate it. here is what i know about it from the box:

it says Lionel Trains American Lines on the front.
Powerful 3amp/40 watt transformer. 27'x63" oval of 0.027 guage track. big, rugged die-cast x1110 steem locomotive with brilliant headlight, classic lionel air whistle and puffing smoke. Flatcar, Boxcar, Tender and Caboose all with magnetic couplers, metal wheels and axles.

on the side it has some nombers and the words:
Complete Ready-To-Run Train Set.
the different numbers i se are:
0.027 Gauge, 6-11944, and 71-1944-202.

on the bottom of the box is the number 11828.

on the other end it says:
Controller, Power Pack, Moters, Lamp and Socket made in China. E-unit, Circuit board made in India. Tractor Trailer, Die Cast Engine Cab made in Macao. Assembled in USA. 1998 Lionel LLC.

im not sure if any of that helps. this set is unopened and i just cant seem to find anything on it. my boss wants to know how much its worth with it being unopened and all, but i cant even find values for it. if anyone can tell me anything about it i would very much appiciate it, thanks.

It sounds like one of Lionel's starter sets. I don't have a 1998-1999 catalog handy. The closest reference I could find is the Santa Fe starter set, part # 6-11900, which retails for $269.95

I did a google search and found two places that still had them for sale. They were listed at $199 and discounted at $169. It says it is a Lionel Freight set.

The 6-11944 Lionel Lines Freight Set was cataloged in 1998 and had an MSRP of $199.95.

FWIW, my 2000 Greenberg price guide shows a value of $165.

i have a complete set of lionel train set still in the box with all the assecaries with it I have all the papers with it also one train has a number as 6357 caboose . the tag on the train is lionel 027 the lionel corporation,ny

Over on the Model Railroader forum, you mentioned that the engine is a 1615. This is an 0-4-0 switcher that was made from 1955-57. There should be a tender with coal that goes with it (this hauls the fuel that the engine burns) with the number 1615T stamped on the bottom.. If the engine has grab irons on the front of the engine and on the tender, it is worth $175-$320, depending on the condition. However, it there aren't the grab irons (which is far more likely), it is worth $95-$180. The caboose is quite common and isn't worth a whole lot, only about $10-$20. If you give me the numbers of the other cars and accessories, I can look up the values for them too.
