lionel type r trainmaster transformer

lionel type r trainmaster transformer

this transformer has 2 indicator lights-one red & one green. the green one goes on when you plug it in. the red one never goes on(bulb is ok). what's up?

Strckley a guess here as it has been years since I dealt with any Lionel units.

My guess is that it would come on when there is a short circuit. Trucks etc. shorting out when derailed or something left or falling on the track that is short circuiting. Possibly a stranded wire coming loose and touching another terminal would cause this.

Short out your track and see if it comes on, then you'll know for sure.

Your correct the red light is for when you have a short.
