UPS TRAINS
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 13, 2004 8:26 PM
Does anybody besides me collect the UPS trains made by RGS?

I've got a very nice UPS train and am curious if there are any other trains out there I could add to it?

So far this is what I have put together:
From RGS:
55571 TMCC GP20
9237 Operating Boxcar
UPSX 6815 TOFC w/ world logo (Trailer # UPSZ 49241)
UPSX 6815 TOFC w/ package string logo (Trailer #UPSX 49242)
TTUX (#49522, 49523) w/ trailer #'s 49252, 49253
TTUX (#49520, 49521) w/ trailer #'s 49250, 49251
MAXI Stack # 49251w/containers # UPSZ 49252, 49253
55523 Porthole Caboose

I also have the KMT UPS Boxcar #UPSX53028 and the Linel Piggyback Flat Car on order.

I heard there were three TOFC w/ package string logo flatcars all with different numbers. I am curious about the rest.

If anyone else has any of these trains and can post the numbers on the trains and the loads I'd appreciate it so I can know what to look for.

I've got a string of TTUX trailertrain cars and maxi-stacks by Lionel but none in UPS. Think that would be neat. Where did you get yours? Just got an intermodal crane to go with mine.

I have several UPS pieces, all of which I think are repaints:

MPC 6464-type operating boxcar, UPS-9237

Larger sub-scale express boxcar, UPSX-53028

Piggyback 6511-type flatcar, UPSX-6815 with UPSX-49242 trailer

LTI Impack spine car UPSZ-49522 + UPSZ-49523 with UPSZ-49252, UPSZ-49253 trailers

Chief,

Most of the UPS trains are made by RGS (aka Bobby Salerno). He repaints Lionel trains very professionally. They look incredible.

He sells them at various train meets in the Northeast. He'll probably be at York.

Although I have not been to these meets, there are a few dealers I know that pick up his stuff and then resell them.

On ebay, watch the auctions for juniormycarr, j.tripp3 ( I think that is Jeremey Gryzboski) and way6662mph (not sure, but this might be RGS himself). Also, Trainbuddies (trainbuddies.com) carries alot of RGS trains but not the UPS.

The KMT boxcar #53028 I found on ebay and I think Trainbuddies has one right now.

When I inquired last week, j.tripp3 had a UPS maxi stack available but it was the numbers I already had.

I have pictures of most of the UPS trains for anyone who is interested.

Post your pictures. If you don't know how, email them to me [feagles1@nc.rr.com] and I'll post them. We love pictures.

I thought my UPSX-53028 was a repaint. It has the same shell and door as one of my KMT-6100 REX boxcars. (The shell, but not the door, also matches two Williams cars.) It has a plain, unmarked black frame attached with rather large galvanized Phillips round-head screws, Lionel-style couplers, which are mounted in holes too large for the rivets, and a build date of '82, which I thought too late for KMT. Was I wrong?

Bob,

It may have been a repaint. I've been told that the UPS BOXCAR you ae talking about was made by Frank Rash of Frank's Roundhouse. I'm not sure of the manner in which he produced KMT trains.

They are neat. I really like the maxi-stacks [especially since I just got an intermodal crane for mine].
