3rd generation inherented from dad . 1835w can get whistle to blow off track upside down but wont work on track have 167 hooked up not sure if it is working right 1835e wont reverse with it . Did. Flip switch on top and will reverse but now it goes backwards every tim I switch transformer foward then backwards if I stop it I did replace motor and fixed wheels on engine be for I set up hadn't ran in over 30 years was working foward fine till I flipped switch and I did move it back to original position thanks

Just a comment....your post sort of reads like a radio/telegram message without the punctuation.

The 1835e won't reverse. Did.

The levers are reverse lockouts. If you moved the lever, applied power and it reversed, and you turned the lever back...and it won't reverse now...that is normal.

We are talking a late 30's standard gauge Lionel unit and not a new mth/Lionel remake, right?

How did you replace the motor?

It sounds like your problem with the whistle is either the relay or the whistle controller. Trying reversing the wires on the 167 and see if that has any effect. If not, the relay coil might be missing a connection somewhere, either the ground where it screws to the whistle or one of the wires going into the coil.
