O Gauge layout that was feature in a TV show
Posted by Hudson322 on Monday, November 26, 2012 3:57 PM

Back in the mid 70's there was a TV show called Ellery Queen.  In the one episode, a O Gauge layout was featured.  Where can I find out more info on who made the layout and whatever became of it?

I believe Roger looked into that many years ago and the information doesn't exist any more. It was a nice layout.

"The Adventure of the Eccentric Engineer

The engineer was played by Ed McMahon.  At the time, the layout seemed like a spectacular hi-rail set-up, especially when you could only get a quick glimpse of it on TV(the BetaMax was just becoming available - not many could record for playback later), but the standards are so much higher now for 3 rail O gauge.

So who done it?  David Hedeson or Arthur Godfrey?

I have figured out what is wrong with my brain!  On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

i have a friend who does location scouting for movies.  with something like this it is very probable that layout was actually in someone's basement and it was merely contracted and used for that single episode.  also likely that the external room (with the locomotive and gondola (NOT a flat car) on the turntable) was a totally different location or set.

chances are that layout existed long after the show ended, but you'd have a hard time tracking that information down unless you could find a similar person who worked for that producer.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question.  I was hoping someone could had provided a track plan.  While still on the subject, does anyone remember The FBI  show that also featured a train layout?  It was called How to Murder a Iron Horse.

We all know who did it! The butler of course!
