There is a free Zinio reader app, that you can download for iPad and iPod Touch. This allows you to download and read the magazine without a connection to the Internet. Not sure if it would work with other types of iPods.

Hope this helps!

Carl,

I downloaded the Zinio reader app for my iPod Touch.  I browsed the "Shop" area for CTT ... but didn't see it.  Would I need to call Kalmbach first to upgrade my subscription before I would see it?

For me - this digital option is going to be really cool!

One thing about trains: It doesn't matter where they’re going. What matters is deciding to get on.

The easiest way to get up and running would be to call our Customer Service number, toll free, (800) 533-6644 and ask for Megan Gould. Megan can talk you through the process and answer any questions you might have.

The on sale date is June 5th. Providers (Zinio, B&N,Amazon) probably won't release it until that date.

My digital version became available today with Zinio.  I am gald because I would hope the subscribers, whether digital or print, would receive their copies before the newstand editions came out.

BTW: This is the second edition I have received since switching from the print to digital edition and I am very pleased with that decision.  I read it on my iPad; it is very user friendly and has many neat functions.

I like the idea of being able to get CTT in electronic form on my Nook, however I am a ittle bummed out about the Kalmbach's  decision to price it the same as the print edition.  I may be missing something on the E side production costs, but when I add up the cost of printing, preping for mailing and postage costs, there seem to be a whole lot of savings and we subscribers are just not getting any share of those reduced costs in the form of a price reduction or expanded content.

This Old House, among others, provides didgital copies to paper subscribers at no additional cost.

Just one cranky consumer's point of view.

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts.

The majority of the cost of producing a magazine remains the same no matter what format. And, although printing and postage are not factors with digital editions, there are other costs associated with preparing an issue in digital format and placing it on various digital newsstands.

If you already receive the print magazine, the cost of adding a digital edition to your existing subscription is $1 per issue or $9 per year.

Wayne on Zinio, 31AUG12

I have both print and digital CTT magazine. I am so happy I did not change over to digital only.

I would prefer digital only, but not with ZINIO.

My digital subscription started with the January, 2012 issue.

I did not receive the February, 2012 issue. Zinio put it in my library after I complained.

I did not receive the May, 2012 issue. Complaining to Zinio returned this response,

" The May issue of Classic Toy Trains was delivered into your Zinio library on March 17, 2012. It has, since, been viewed and downloaded.

Kind regards,

Nelson Lopez

I filled out a Zinio Customer Survey giving the worst ratings possible. Maybe I burned my bridges. Further correspondence went unanswered.

The October, 2012 issue of CTT will not download, although, unlike the May issue, which shows nothing at all, the October cover thumb image shows. Clicking on the thumb has been giving, "Unable to download this page. Please try again later." I tried to download the magazine on August 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31.

I am finished with Zinio for life. The only digital magazines I subscribe to now are those that let me download the issue as a PDF file.

Your experience may differ from mine.

Update, 24SEP12:

The Nov-2012 issue is in my Zinio library. No problem reading it. Excellent issue.

The Oct-2012 issue is still "Unable to download this page. Please try again later."

The May-2012 issue is still totally absent.
