Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone,

I'm new to the hobby and looking to utilize the experience of forum members.  I just received an SD90 at Christmas and am noticing a grinding noies as it goes around curves.  The curves on my current layout are all O-36 and this loco is rated for O-31 minimum so it should be fine.  Has anyone else had the same problem and have any toubleshooting tips for me?  Also I have been told by some that removing the shell on TMCC locos is best left to qualified repairmen but it gives the instructions for how to remove it and change the bulbs etc in the manual.  Any advice on that for me?  Thanks.

Jay

Removing the shell is not that difficult but if the loco is still under warranty removing the shell can terminate the warranty. If you do remove the shell it is possible that the TMCC antenna wire will be connected to some area of the shell so be careful.

I have a lionmaster SD80, it makes no running noise at all, better have it checked out or maybe give it a real close inspection, try to find the reason for the noise.

I will check it out for sure.  Also as soon as I power up my track (I'm running in conventional mode) the speakers start humming and making tuning type sounds.  Is that normal?

I have a Lionmaster Legacy SD80 as well, and it makes no such noise on O31 or O36 Fastrack curves.  If it's under warranty, I'd take it to a Lionel service facility or send it back to Lionel.
