williams by bachman smoke units
Posted by dengto on Saturday, December 10, 2011 9:58 AM

Hi  i have two williams by bachman steamers...a 671 turbine and a semi scale hudson. I like them alot but both seuthe smoke units died ....I ordered some new ones but bachman sent a check back to me.. So now im thinking they dont have any to release for parts.   Is there some one who sells smoke units or anything that will fit these engines?  Thanks for any help.

The Seuthe smoke unit on my Williams Berkshire was pretty pathetic.  It was just a faint wisp of smoke with no chuffing effect.  It died quickly and it wasn't worth replacing.  Otherwise, the engine is great.

If the Seuthe unit is a standard one, then your train dealer can order one from Seuthe, or get one online:

http://www.modelrailcraft.com/SearchResults.asp?searching=Y&sort=7&cat=71&show=10&page=3

The Seuthe smoke units you can use are the #6 at 10-14 volts, and the #7 at 11-16 volts. Both units are 10mm wide at the top lip, 9mm wide at the main body, and 38mm long.

Perhaps a Williams owner can confirm if these are correct units.

I bought a lionel smoke unit kit for my Williams 671 from Box car Bill.  I installed a switch in the edge of the cab to turn it off if I want. Folks, I gotta tell ya, THAT is the ONLY way to go! I LOVE it! Thanks Bill!

Yes, Boxcar Bill:

I too am interested in retrofitting some of my Williams steamers with this kit. My 773 Scale hudson comes to mind.

How do we go about getting a kit(s0 from you?

Thanks!

I took pics of the installation in a Williams 671.  I can send them to people who need extra help. Bill provides instructions.

I have a WIlliams SP GS-4 Daylight that I would love to replace the smoke unit with one of th elionel fan driven ones.  Would you be able to send me the pictures you spoke of to tryanpanther@yahoo.com.  Thanks a bunch.

So far that too seems to be my only complaint about any Williams engine, the smoke unit is very lousy! I had to dump the fluid out of my 671 two or three times and then fill it according to what Williams had in their manual, I thought that it was my overfilling it that did a problem.
